Abdominal pain, also known as a stomach ache, is a symptom associated with both non-serious and serious medical issues.

Common causes of pain in the abdomen include gastroenteritis and irritable bowel syndrome.[2] About 15% of people have a more serious underlying condition such as appendicitis, leaking or ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, diverticulitis, or ectopic pregnancy.[2] In a third of cases the exact cause is unclear.[2]

Given that a variety of diseases can cause some form of abdominal pain, a systematic approach to the examination of a person and the formulation of a differential diagnosis remains important.

The most frequent reasons for abdominal pain are gastroenteritis (13%), irritable bowel syndrome (8%), urinary tract problems (5%), inflammation of the stomach (5%) and constipation (5%). In about 30% of cases, the cause is not determined. About 10% of cases have a more serious cause including gallbladder (gallstones or biliary dyskinesia) or pancreas problems (4%), diverticulitis (3%), appendicitis (2%) and cancer (1%).[2] More common in those who are older, mesenteric ischemia and abdominal aortic aneurysms are other serious causes.[3]

L-Glutamine: Restoring gut health and leaky gut

L-Glutamine: Restoring gut health and leaky gut

Can L-Glutamine really help with my gut health? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to explore.

L-Glutamine: Restoring gut health and leaky gut

L-glutamine is a non-essential amino acid produced by the body but also found in food. The main characteristic is that it is considered to have immunological and pharmacological effects. L-glutamine is a major source of energy for intestinal and some immune cells, which makes it very important for overall gut health.

L-Glutamine is a critical amino acid that is necessary for a number of different functions in our bodies. So what are amino acids? Amino acids are the basic building blocks of protein, which forms a substantial percentage of our bodies. Proteins are found in every cell of our body. Cells use protein as building blocks to help our hair grow, regenerate our skin, and produce hormones, cartilage and tissue.

Proteins are the building blocks of our body and amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Amino acids are sometimes called the building blocks of life and for good reason.

Studies have shown L-glutamine has many positive effects in terms of reducing inflammation and helping in exercise recovery, but also in strengthening the immune system and improving IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) and IBS symptoms (irritable bowel syndrome).

More recently though, it has been used for its ability to help with overall gut health. You’ve likely heard about gut health, but it’s not always clear what exactly it means. One key factor to gut health is the strength and integrity of the walls that line the digestive tract. If this barrier is weakened or damaged, your gut health will suffer.

Gastroparesis Signs & Symptoms (ex. Nausea, Weight Loss)

Gastroparesis is a gastrointestinal disorder, essentially “stomach paralysis” that is due to delayed emptying of stomach contents into the small intestine. This delayed emptying, or paralysis of the stomach, can have many different causes and risk factors (please check out my lesson on that particular topic). Due to food sitting in the stomach for extended periods of time (due to delayed gastric emptying), gastroparesis can have a variety of classic signs and symptoms, which we discuss in this lesson.

Can gastric problem lead to bloating with numbness? – Dr. Rajasekhar M R

Weight No Comments »

Gastric problem is a very vague term used by common man thinking that it is gas. Gastric technically it means there is problem in the stomach. If it is gastritis, it is inflammation of the stomach. If there is gastric ulcer, there is ulcer in the stomach. So bloating can be one of the symptoms of gastritis. By that will not be causing in either side of the body. Numbness is caused by neurological effects like which affects the brain, spinal cords. It has directly no relationship with the gas or gastric. So that has to be clearly understood.

Acute Gastritis (Stomach Inflammation) | Causes, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Acute gastritis is a condition involving inflammation of the gastric (stomach) mucosa. A wide variety of factors can cause acute gastritis including some bacterial infections, consumption of certain beverages and some medications. This inflammation of the stomach lining leads to a variety of symptoms. In this lesson, we discuss a large list of causes of acute gastritis, including all of the signs and symptoms, complications of acute gastritis, and how clinicians diagnose and treat acute gastritis.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: I forgot to mention that in the case of B12 deficiency caused by gastritis (which can be from atrophic gastritis or autoimmune gastritis), B12 INJECTIONS are required as oral supplements will not be absorbed efficiently!*

How the Body Absorbs and Uses Medicine | Merck Manual Consumer Version

Weight No Comments »

Learn more on how the body absorbs and uses medicine: http://www.merckmanuals.com/home/drugs/administration-and-kinetics-of-drugs/drug-absorption

How rapidly drugs are absorbed into the body depends on factors such as the speed of the gastrointestinal tract, how acidic it is, and whether the drug is designed to be absorbed slowly (called slow- or sustained-release preparations). Drugs come in tablets, capsules, skin (transdermal) patches, suppositories, and liquids (solutions). Drugs are transformed (metabolized) in the body by enzymes such as those in the liver or kidneys. Drugs that are inactive when taken, but become active after being metabolized, are called pro-drugs. Drugs are eliminated from the body in the urine (for example, if they are soluble in water or after being metabolized) or feces.

About The Merck Manuals:

First published in 1899 as a small reference book for physicians and pharmacists, The Merck Manual grew in size and scope to become one of the world’s most widely used comprehensive medical resources for professionals and consumers. As The Manual evolved, it continually expanded the reach and depth of its offerings to reflect the mission of providing the best medical information to a wide cross-section of users, including medical professionals and students, veterinarians and veterinary students, and consumers.
